The Ramadan programming at Alserkal Avenue has been revealed

  • 25 February 2025

Alserkal Avenue's Ramadan programm

Entitled Interrupting Patterns, it’s inviting audiences to collectively sit with the interruption of time itself.

Ramadan is now days away, calling for a reflective, more mindful approach to daily life — and it is this same spirit driving the upcoming Interrupting Patterns programme at Alserkal Avenue. Keeping its lanes open late, the city’s leading arts district is inviting audiences to collectively sit with the interruption of time itself during the holy month, a moment in the year that shifts our rhythms, bringing us together in reflection.

Guests are invited to explore this genre-defying mix that’s rooted in fiction and steps beyond the ordinary, asking: What happens when we break our everyday routines? What new, marvelous stories emerge when we rethink the ones we’ve inherited? Through poetry, performance, film, and theatre (including dedicated sessions for children), Interrupting Patterns will move between forms and genres, challenging how stories are told, revealing hidden perspectives, reviving forgotten truths, and posing new questions to old narratives. The Ramadan programme will unfold over two weekends – 8 to 9 March and 15 to 16 March – and run from 8pm to midnight.

Elsewhere at Alserkal Avenue, The Yard will play host to Melodies Under the Moonlight by Tanaghom on 8 March. Featuring Hanan Halwany, Anas Ali Mortada, and Sandu, the repertoire breaks musical conventions with a bold fusion of Arabic Buzuq traditions and Indian rhythms, layered with keyboard melodies, piano chords, and deep bass undertones. Also taking place on the 8th – and continuing every weekend across the month – are Tatreez Circles by Kave.

No ordinary craft, the art of Palestinian embroidery is a form of storytelling, one that uniquely expresses the state’s vibrant heritage. You can give it a try yourself by bringing your pieces and working in unison on your individual projects. Most importantly, you’ll get lost in the therapeutic heritage of Palestine’s thread and needle — just like tetas did.
