As recently announced by the local carrier at ATM, its summer schedule will span 11 destinations – two of which are new in its network – and launch on 4 June, coinciding with the Eid Al Adha break. With Arafat Day expected to fall on Thursday, 5 June (depending on the sighting of the moon), we’re potentially looking at a four-day weekend ahead. And with Flydubai operating flights to Greece, Italy, Croatia, Montenegro, and more, planning your summer getaway starts here.
Croatia – Dubrovnik
Beginning on 5 June, flights to Dubrovnik will operate until 14 September, giving you plenty of time to explore the ‘Pearl of the Adriatic’ if travelling over Eid is not an option. Between its seaside location, ancient stone walls, and red-roofed buildings, this Croatian city offered aesthetic inspiration aplenty for Prince Eric’s kingdom in The Little Mermaid, and it doesn’t take long to see the likeness — a mere stroll through its limestone streets feels like you’ve stepped into a fairy tale. While you’re there, take the cable car up to Srđ (a 412-metre-high hill that once served as a battleground) for striking views of Dubrovnik’s old town before grounding yourself at the poignant War Photo Limited gallery that expose the horriffic day-to-day realities of war.
Egypt – Al Alamein
Taking flight from 21 June, the Al Alamein route marks one of two new destinations for the Dubai-based carrier, making access to Egypt easier than ever — the historic town in the north joins Alexandria and Cairo, translating to a total of by 21 weekly flights. Most leisure seekers are yet to discover its laidback appeal (Al Alamein is located on the Mediterranean Sea, so beautiful beaches are a given), but history buffs know it for its crucial role in World War II (visit its museums and memorials and museums for insights into the significance of the battles fought here). Weary parents, take note: book a stay at the adults-only Casa Cook North Coast that features direct beachfront access, a seasonal outdoor swimming pool, and wellness sessions for some hard-earned “we” time.
Georgia – Batumi
You’ve checked the dynamic capital of Tbilisi off your bucket list thanks to Georgia’s visa-on-arrival policy — now what? The lesser-known Batumi, ideal for a summer jaunt, beckons as flydubai will begin its route on 5 June. Swimming and sunbathing at Mtsvane Kontskhi aside, you can immerse in nature at the nearby Batumi Botanical Garden, which hosts one of the widest varieties of flora on earth. Do as the locals do, and unwind by taking a leisurely stroll along the 7km Batumi Boulevard that caters to all ages by way of cafés, playgrounds, basketball courts, musical fountains, and more. This is also the place to slow down and see the towering Ali and Nino sculpture in motion as the doomed lovers fail to come together, day after day, at 7pm.
Greece – Corfu, Mykonos, Santorini
With Flydubai operating flights between Dubai and Corfu (4 June to 30 August), Mykonos (5 June to 7 September), and Santorini (8 June to 7 September) this summer, Greece is high on the agenda. The island of Corfu, scenic and seriously underrated, appeals to those with a penchant for secret beaches, hidden villages, and eclectic architecture — here, it’s derived from Venetian, French, and British influences owing to its multicultural history that saw a number of varying governments take reign. The glamourous island of Mykonos, meanwhile, is where you can stay, dine and party in style amid picturesque landscapes composed of whitewashed buildings, blue-domed churches, and famous windmills that symbolise resilience. And if epic sunsets and dramatically hued volcanic beaches in a more relaxing setting is more your speed, then Santorini is the island for you.
Italy – Olbia
If an island escape in Italy sounds more appealing, think Sardinia, made accessible thanks to Flydubai’s summer flights to Olbia from 10 June to 30 August. Authentic and easy to navigate, this coastal city on the second-largest island in the Mediterranean Sea promises all the essentials of a paradisiacal holiday: ancient ruins, stunning landscapes, friendly locals, and seafood-centric cuisine. Olbia is at its liveliest in the historic centre, where over 100 boutiques await alongside historical buildings and cafe-rimmed piazzas await, so this is where you’ll want to splurge. The beaches here, legendary in their own right, are home to white sandy shores and crystal-clear waters, so water sports like snorkelling, kayaking, and stand-up paddleboarding are also popular pursuits.
Montenegro – Tivat
One of Montenegro’s most popular destinations is officially on Flydubai’s summer schedule, too, with flights operating from 4 June to 6 September. Located in the Bay of Kotor, a UNESCO World Heritage site, the charming coastal town of Tivat boasts one of the most beautiful coastlines in the European Mediterranean. You’ll while away the hours at Porto Montenegro, a naval base turned luxury marina, as the lifestyle destination is home to some of the country’s finest hotels, restaurants, and boutiques as well as water sports and other leisure activities. What this tiny Balkan country lacks in size, it makes up for in extraordinary natural beauty, so outdoorsy types can hike or pedal up to Vrmac mountain to earn the best views of Kotor Bay and beyond.
Turkey – Antalya, Bodrum, Trabzon
With Turkey still a firm favourite for summer among UAE residents, both Trabzon (4 June to 31 August) and Bodrum (5 June to 7 September) remain in Flydubai’s list of seasonal routes. The lakes, forests, and mountains of Trabzon make it a haven for city dwellers seeking serenity, while Bodrum – renowned for its glitzy hotels and vibrant nightlife scene – attracts trendy types. Even better? Antalya is now in the summer schedule, too — the inaugural flight to this new destination will take place on 5 June, and operate daily until 30 September. A gateway to the country’s southern Mediterranean region, Antalya stands on the dreamy Turkish Riviera, offering visitors the perfect blend of nature, a buzzing lifestyle (tourism in this resort city is booming), and history (it was founded two millennia ago because of its Roman-era harbour).
