A cultural fusion unlike any other, the inaugural Dubai Caribbean Carnival will merge Dubai nightlife with the region’s unrivalled revelry
Music, dancing, dazzling costumes, and a veritable riot of colour — mere weeks from now, Dubai will be
transformed into a celebration of all things Caribbean as a one-of-a-kind festival makes its debut on 29
November. Fusing the region’s renowned revelry and Dubai’s dynamic nightlife, the inaugural Dubai
Caribbean Carnival will bring the best of both cultures together, culminating in one unforgettable event.
Spanning multiple locations and a number of days, it will run until 2 December, coinciding with the long
National Day weekend. Translation: this is the time to dive into a truly authentic showcase of the Caribbean’s
famously vibrant rhythms and flavours, one that promises to unite diverse communities and epitomise the
multiculturalism of Dubai. Changing the landscape of luxury entertainment as we know it, the festival will
kick off with SCORCH Duck Work on 29 November, a high-octane Caribbean fete set against the backdrop of
Dubai’s nightlife. The event, for the uninitiated, has become a global Carnival event staple, merging the spirit
of playfulness with the revelry of the Carnival fete experience.
The following day will bring with it the DREAM Carnival Parade during which the city’s iconic skyline will
come alive with a burst of colourful costumes, music, and that famously lively Caribbean spirit. This event is
known as the “Greatest Show on Earth” in Trinidad and Tobago, and a significant expression of the dualisland nation’s heritage, culture, and artistic creativity — and that’s exactly what’s expected in Dubai come
30 November. In fact, this vibrant and culturally rich event will not only be one of the highlights of the long
weekend, but also the very first Carnival Parade in Dubai. A star-studded lineup that features some of the
Caribbean’s biggest artists is also in the works for the Feteland Mega Concert on 30 November — but more
on that later.
The Dubai Caribbean Carnival will culminate on 2 December with Colourland Dubai, a J’ouvert-inspired
celebration where festivalgoers can let loose with paint, powder, and soca beats, and unbridled fun at
Barasti Beach. This groundbreaking celebration, the first-ever J’ouvert event in the city, is set to bring
together people from all walks of life in a shared celebration of community with a brunch setting that will
run from 2pm to 10pm, wrapping up Carnival celebrations on a joyously high note.
As for some of the big names taking the stage at Feteland? Beenie Man and Machel Montano for starters.
For fans of Caribbean music, the two need no introduction, but for everyone else, here’s a brief one. Dubbed
the King of Dancehall, Beenie Man is set to co-headline the Dubai Caribbean Carnival, bringing his signature
fast-paced rapping and energetic vocals to the city. With hits like “Who Am I” and “Girls Dem Sugar”, the
dancehall legend is renowned for his ability to captivate audiences with his powerful voice and charismatic
stage presence. The Grammy Award winner is, simply put, one of the festival’s must-see acts.
Machel Montano is another leading artist not to be missed. The Trinidadian recording artist and record
producer is essentially a global ambassador for soca music, widely credited for taking the uptempo genre – a
fusion of calypso with Indian rhythms – mainstream. Destined for greatness, he landed on the radars of soca
fans as a precocious 10-year-old Machel, belting out his hit “Too Young to Soca” on a TV talent competition
back in 1987. Today, the Grammy nominee is so much more than a musician. Currently holding the keys to
six cities – San Fernando, New York, and Trinidad and Tobago included – Montano continues to tour
extensively, producing and promoting the genre of soca worldwide.
