Walt Disney has announced plans to open its first theme park in the Middle East.
What does Abu Dhabi have in common with California, Florida, Tokyo, Paris, Hong Kong and Shanghai? Mickey Mouse! Yas Island has been chosen as the setting for the seventh Disney theme park location, making it part of an elite global club – and reaffirming Yas Island’s status as the leading leisure and entertainment spot in the region.
The exciting new development gives Disney fans in the region an incredible new experience to look forward to. The Chairman of the Department of Culture and Tourism for Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Miral, His Excellency Mohamed Khalifa Al Mubarak promised that the new Disney Abu Dhabi resort will have a series of unique attractions and experiences.
He explained, “What we are creating with Disney in Abu Dhabi is a whole new world of imagination — an experience that will inspire generations across the region and the world, creating magical moments and memories that families will treasure forever. Through the development of unique attractions and experiences, Abu Dhabi continues to reinforce its position as a leading global destination for cultural and family tourism.”
What do we know so far about the new Abu Dhabi theme park?
Visitors can expect the full Disney experience, with rides, attractions, entertainment, retail outlet and food destinations. The park will be contemporary in its design, with modern architecture and the very latest technology being put to work to elevate the guest experience. Disney has also pledged to integrate its own history and heritage with the stories and culture of Abu Dhabi.
The new park will occupy a privileged waterfront position on Yas Island, adding to the overall resort experience. Adding to the excitement, Disney Experiences Chairman Josh D’Amaro says the new Abu Dhabi park will be a complete game changer which will usher in a totally new era for Disney Theme Park and Resorts. He said, “Our resort in Abu Dhabi will be the most advanced and interactive destination in our portfolio. The location of our park is incredibly unique – anchored by a beautiful waterfront – which will allow us to tell our stories in completely new ways.”

Disney has also hinted that its new Abu Dhabi project will be different to what Disney fans may have already enjoyed at other theme parks around the world, teasing the use of exclusive new technology and the creation of a Disney castle that’s unlike anything in existence at the other parks today.
