A musical masterpiece, Sweeney Todd will take over Dubai Opera from 1 to 8 February.
Take a (deep) breath as Todd’s need for revenge will spiral wildly out of control come February. That’s right — Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street will grace the Dubai Opera stage from 1 to 8 February, shocking and awing audiences.
This celebrated production by Melbourne-based Victorian Opera promises to captivate audiences with its haunting melodies, dark humour, and gripping tale of love, revenge and redemption. Stephen Sondheim’s masterpiece, for the uninitiated, is set in the shadowy streets of 19th century London and tells the story of a wronged barber’s thirst for vengeance.
After years of wrongful imprisonment, Sweeney Todd returns to Fleet Street, where he reunites with his razors and hatches a chilling plan for justice. The plot is as captivating as it is unsettling, with Sweeney’s partner in crime, Mrs. Lovett, adding a macabre twist to her failing pie shop by using his victims as the secret ingredient. Together, they forge an unlikely alliance, leading to a series of chilling events that culminate in an unforgettable climax.
