The UFC is set to return to Abu Dhabi for an action-packed event, UFC 294, on October 21. This highly anticipated night of fights will see a lightweight title rematch between Russian champion Islam Makhachev and Brazilian powerhouse Charles Oliveira, promising to deliver an exhilarating showdown.
Makhachev, 31, first claimed the lightweight championship nine months ago when he defeated Oliveira in a dramatic clash. The Russian fighter further cemented his dominance in March by successfully defending his title against Alexander Volkanovski. Now, the stage is set for an intense rematch, as Oliveira, 33, rebounded from his previous loss and secured a victory against Beneil Darish in June.
The UFC 294 undercard will feature another exciting match-up, as undefeated Swedish fighter Khamzat Chimaev takes on Paulo Costa in the middleweight bout. Chimaev, who remains undefeated during his 12-fight career, has been a force to be reckoned with since joining the UFC in 2020, boasting four first-round finishes in six fights.
The event will take place at Etihad Arena, Abu Dhabi, known for its electric atmosphere during UFC showdowns. This is the latest instalment of a longstanding partnership between the world’s premier Mixed Martial Arts organisation and the Department of Culture and Tourism – Abu Dhabi (DCT Abu Dhabi).
