The Middle East Film and Comic Con (MEFCC) is taking over the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre from 3 to 5 March.
Fans of fantasy and superheroes are in for a treat, as the MEFCC has just added two more celebrities to its lineup. Jamie Campbell Bower from Netflix’s Stranger Things and May Calamawy from Marvel’s Moon Knight will join Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Matt Smith, and Paige O’Hara in the capital.
British actor Jamie Campbell Bower is synonymous with his role as Vecna in Stranger Things but is also an integral part of several pop culture phenomena, including Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga, Mortal Instruments and Fantastic Beasts.
Egyptian-Palestinian actress May Calamawy has quickly made a name for herself as one of the most captivating rising stars in Hollywood. Her big break came in 2019 when she was cast as a series regular in the critically acclaimed comedy series Ramy. However, she is perhaps better known for her role as Layla El-Faouly in Moon Knight.
With a new hall added to the already expansive space, the new features for MEFCC 2023 include the Cosplay Central and the Gaming Arena. Featuring retro and unreleased games, eSports tournaments, gaming software, accessories, hardware and limited-edition merchandise, this new development will give fans the best in inspiring gaming fun. Each year, characters are brought to life by the most devoted fans at MEFCC: the Cosplayers. So, apart from the annual cosplay competition, this instalment will include Cosplay Central to supercharge the cosplay experience with meet-and-greets with local and international professional cosplayers, cosplay repair stations and lockers, green screen photo opportunities, and more.
While the entire roster of celebrities has yet to be revealed, the Meet the Stars section will be as big as ever. The Cine Club – another unmissable feature – is hosting Q&As with the stars, allowing fans to quiz their heroes and view exclusive trailers and film screenings. The Creative Academy, meanwhile, will offer hands-on learning experiences in workshops from world-renowned comic book, film, TV, arts and crafts, gaming, cosplay and content creation experts.
Early bird tickets are currently available from Platinumlist and Virgin Megastore Tickets. AED 135 (single-day) or AED 299 (three-day) access.
