Chaos Karts, the UAE’s first augmented reality go-karting venue, will debut in Al Quoz later this year.
If you’ve ever burned rubber across the raceways of Mushroom Kingdom only to wish that its round hills, striped grasslands, and floating objects could come to life, you’re in for a treat — you can soon experience it IRL. After gaining popularity in the UK, Chaos Karts will debut in Al Quoz on 10 March, bringing with it a unique fusion of gaming and go-karting thanks to state-of-the-art technology.
The first of its kind in the UAE, this live-action go-karting experience promises to take gaming to the next level by bridging the gap between the virtual and physical worlds, essentially immersing all racers into a Mario Kart-esque video game in the process. With the virtual world being digitally projected around you, each circuit (spanning about 20 minutes) will bring you an augmented reality experience without the need for any headsets or personal screens — it’s just you, your kart, and the virtual tracks. And with built-in collision-reduction technology, you can satisfy your inner speed demon without the need for protective equipment (read: rented overalls and a smelly helmet).
The experience includes a variety of track designs, from the Arabian desert to the cosmos and more, an entirely reactive and drivable electric kart, and – most importantly – usable in-kart power-ups and weapons that will allow you to ‘battle’ right up to the finish line. Visitors can compete against fellow players by collecting jewels and power-ups, including laser guns, hammers, speed boosts, bombs, and the dreaded EMP.
Furthermore, players can add to their adrenaline-packed experience by engaging in more fun and challenging games such as a laser maze, target shooting maze, zip-line, and more in The Cube, a dedicated immersive game space within the venue. Chaos Karts is open to anyone aged nine and up. Starting from AED 104, tickets are now on sale through entertainment discovery platform Fever. See you at the starting line.
