The award-winning musical will take over Dubai Opera from 30 November to 14 December.
Whether you’re a Millennial, Gen Xer, or proud Baby Boomer, the image of Gene Kelly tap-dancing in the rain instantly evokes a sense of nostalgia. It’s no wonder, then, that the upcoming musical at Dubai Opera is all but guaranteed to sell out. That’s right — Singin’ in the Rain will run from 30 November to 14 December, and it’s already been dubbed the highlight of the season ahead.
Bringing the story to life will be a visual and auditory feast composed of Andrew Wright’s electrifying choreography, Simon Higlett’s stunning set design, and (you guessed it) live rain showers on stage every night. And with acclaimed theatre director Jonathan Church at the helm, the musical was rightfully nominated for an Olivier Award (Best Musical Revival) in 2012. The West End aside, it has been staged in Japan, Australia, South Africa, Canada and more. The upcoming performances at Dubai Opera will mark the production’s debut in the Middle East.

For the uninitiated, this splashy stage adaptation of the iconic 1952 film stays true to the story that depicts the transition from silent films to talkies during the late 1920s, complete with Don’s charm and Lina’s squeaky voice. It portrays the struggles and triumphs of silent film stars adapting to the advent of sound, offering a wistful yet exhilarating journey through a pivotal moment in cinematic history. Audiences can also expect to enjoy timeless classics like “Good Morning”, “Make ’em Laugh”, “Moses Supposes”, and the legendary “Singin’ in the Rain”. Composed by Nacio Herb Brown with lyrics by Arthur Freed, this vibrant MGM score will be brought to life by an exceptionally talented cast and orchestra, so pure theatrical magic is in the works.

Fans of Hollywood’s golden era are advised to book early bird tickets to Singin’ in the Rain, available now via the Dubai Opera website, in order to secure seats in the front rows for an extra special treat (hint: there’s no artificial droplets nor cheesy video effects in sight).
