This time, it’s Abu Dhabi’s turn to sing along to ABBA’s timeless songs.
Dancing queens, listen up — MAMMA MIA! is coming to Abu Dhabi. The smash hit musical delighted audiences at Dubai Opera in 2021 and, this time, it’s gearing up to take over Etihad Arena on Yas Island from 11 to 22 June. If you’ve watched the eponymous film that was released in 2008, complete with an all-star cast that includes Meryl Streep and Pierce Brosnan, then you probably know you’re in for a night of laughs, feel-good vibes, and ABBA’s most iconic songs. For everyone else, here’s a brief introduction.
It all unfolds on an idyllic Greek island, where a young and spirited bride-to-be by the name of Sophie secretly brings back three men from her mother’s past back to discover the identity of her biological father. Determined to have him give her away at the aisle, she believes that she will learn who fathered her after individually spending time with all three. Hilarity ensues when Donna, Sophie’s mother, finds herself on an island with three of her former lovers and demands that they leave.
Created by Judy Craymer – who created the beloved musical – it made its debut in London’s West End back in 1999, and since entertained more than 65 million people across the globe. Closer to home, you too can expect a whole host of songs by ABBA’s Benny Anderson and Bjorn Ulvaeus at the heart of MAMMA MIA! The likes of “Knowing Me, Knowing You”, “Take a Chance on Me”, and “Thank You for the Music” will all make an appearance come June.
