DSCVR Partnership: Jeddah-based artist Nujood Al-Otaibi will showcase her work on the global motorsports stage.
Vuse, the principal partner of the McLaren Formula 1 team, has launched the first Driven by Change residency, honouring Saudi Arabian artist Nujood Al-Otaibi with a transformative residency program.
Drawing inspiration from her hearing impairment, Nujood Al-Otaibi has become the newest member of the Driven by Change community. This innovative program aims to empower underrepresented creatives by providing them with opportunities to showcase their work on the global stage of motorsports.
Throughout her residency, Nujood will enjoy exclusive access to a fully funded studio space situated within Studio Thirteen in Dubai. The facility is overseen by renowned artist Rabab Tantawy, who notably crafted the captivating McLaren car livery for the 2021 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.
At Studio Thirteen, Nujood will showcase her artwork and receive mentorship to enhance her artistic skills. She will be free to unleash her creativity and produce pieces of art that draw inspiration from her culture and personal life. Some of her creations will be connected to the McLaren F1 Team, forging a unique artistic collaboration throughout the year.
Nujood hails from Jeddah, Saudi Arabia and discovered her artistic abilities at a young age. Her creative journey began when she experienced hearing loss at the age of five, and she has since found solace in expressing her emotions through art. Nujood’s artistic repertoire predominantly encompasses oil paintings and mixed media collages, with her works exploring themes of memory, identity, and the visual interpretation of sound. She takes great pride in representing Saudi Arabia’s vibrant art scene on a global platform, serving as an inspiration for emerging artists and advocating for self-expression through creativity, particularly among individuals with disabilities.
Nujood Al-Otaibi comments: “I am honoured to be the first artist in residence at the Driven by Change residency at Studio Thirteen. Through the residency, I want to not only expand my wings by exploring other styles of painting, but I would also like to inspire others. Showcasing that disabilities do not curb creativity and should in fact be seen as a gateway rather than a barrier to success.”
In addition to the artist residency, the studio will serve as a dynamic platform for a series of creative masterclasses aimed at inspiring the artistic community. These masterclasses will provide invaluable opportunities for participants to learn new skills, connect with industry experts, and exchange valuable insights. It is a collaborative space where individuals can expand their networks, gain knowledge, and share tips, fostering a vibrant and supportive creative ecosystem.
