Get lost in the Old City
A UNESCO world heritage site, the Old City dates back to the 12th Century. Once ruled over by the Shirvanshah dynasty, today it buzzes with daily life. Take time to get lost amongst the narrow streets and you’re sure to discover hidden gems like shady coffee spots and quaint art galleries.
In one corner of the Old City you’ll find the Maiden’s Tower, an eight-story fortress that has long protected the city from invaders. Historians have dated parts of the fortress back to the 7th century BC. It’s open daily until 6.00pm with the views alone from the top making it well worth a visit (and the climb!)
Another must visit attraction in this part of the town is the royal palace. It was built in 1411 and gives a glimpse of a way of life long forgotten.
Visit Fountain’s Square
A great choice if you want to walk off lunch, Fountain’s Square is a shady spot to soak up the atmosphere of the city. It’s home to the Nizami Museum of Azerbaijani Literature. You can’t miss the beautiful blue majolica façade and six impressive monuments which gaze out across the courtyard.
Soak up a traditional hammam experience
You’ll find traditional hammams dotted across Baku. The Four Seasons Hotel Baku also has two traditional hammams located within its spa, with a series of treatment options. Watch the Flame Towers at dusk
The most recognisable modern silhouettes towering over Baku’s skyline, the Flame Towers are a trio of ultra-modern skyscrapers clad in LED panels. When the sun starts to set, a spectacular visual show commences with the LEDs shining red and orange to mimic the movement of a flame.
