The UAE’s moon-sighting committee spotted the crescent moon of Dhu Al Hijjah on the evening of Tuesday 27 May. That means the final month of the Islamic calendar begins on Wednesday 28 May.
Arafat Day falls on Thursday 5 June, with the Eid Al Adha festivities starting on Friday 6 June and continuing through Sunday 8 June. Since Thursday is a public holiday too, most residents can look forward to a four-day break from Thursday to Sunday.
Falling the day before Eid, Arafat Day is the most sacred day of Hajj and a public holiday in the UAE, symbolising spiritual reflection and unity. Eid Al Adha, often referred to as the ‘Festival of Sacrifice’, is one of the holiest dates in the Islamic calendar. It’s a time for reflection, family gatherings, and giving back.
