A combination of sunset views, pisco sours, and Peruvian cuisine has made Above Eleven a Bangkok institution and now, Dubai is getting a slice of the action. Above Eleven Dubai has officially launched, opening its doors at the bustling Palm West Beach. The newest restaurant on Palm Jumeirah is bringing its Peruvian spirit and Japanese precision to offer not only the ultimate Nikkei experience, but also a sensorial escape.
Here, an urban jungle meets an electric atmosphere. Its crown jewel, of course, is an expansive terrace that offers eyeline views of the city skyline, the Arabian Gulf, and Ain Dubai — the ultimate trifecta. Authenticity, meanwhile, comes courtesy of a menu that honours Peru’s diverse culinary culture and is curated by Head Chef Luis Gavancho. Hailing from Peru, it’s his first culinary venture into the Middle East. The upscale, yet unpretentious concept brings unique dishes that are prepared using specially sourced, high-quality ingredients and feature made-to-order maki rolls, nigiri and sashimi as well as an array of exceptional cebiches (such as the ‘Above Eleven’ made with seabass, A11 leche tigres milk, and crispy calamari for a play on texture and taste). It doesn’t stop there, though.
The extensive menu exudes Latin-American pride with Peruvian starters and tiraditos, with the hamachi truffle ponzu touted to be a favourite. Anticuchos range from chicken, black angus, octopus and portobello, while Peruvian traditions include arroz con pato made with boneless duck leg confit, and red snapper a lo macho. The robatayaki grill introduces a never-seen-before signature Patagonian toothfish, as well as options catering to vegans. Over in the desserts section, the lava cake with lucuma sauce and matcha cheesecake paired with black sesame ice cream promise to be crowd-pleasers.
With a line-up of live entertainment throughout the week, a retractable roof that suggests alfresco season is all-year round, and a dedicated terrace bar pouring curated cocktails that stay true to theme, Above Eleven Dubai is all about living it up after the sun goes down. The space can accommodate up to 270 guests through a stone maze entry that leads to three main areas across the spacious venue: a dining room, a lounge and terrace, and a sushi bar. Its interiors comprise striking colours, foliage-covered ceilings, floor-to-ceiling windows, Aztec art-stained mirrors, and banana leaf trees to bring the essence of outdoors inside. It all comes together to make for an elevated experience, both literally and figuratively.
