Combining music and comedy, the Filipino-American multihyphenate will take the stage at Dubai Opera on 28 October.
With the comedy scene of Dubai diversifying further each day, JR De Guzman is the latest rising star to make their regional debut in Dubai. The Filipino-American multihyphenate – comedian, musician, and writer – will perform at Dubai Opera for one night only, taking the stage on 28 October. Having opened for the likes of Tim Allen, Margaret Cho, and Paul Mooney, JR has performed at countless shows and venues worldwide — Stand-Up Tokyo in Japan, the Jokers Ball in Indonesia, the Badaboom Comedy Series in Amsterdam, and the Edmonton Comedy Festival included.
Born in the Philippines and raised in California, the former music teacher draws on his multicultural background to deliver stand-up routines that resonate with diverse audiences, often exploring themes of cultural identity, family dynamics, and the humour found in everyday experiences. But it’s his unique signature style that wins over audiences both online and IRL; JR pairs punchlines with storytelling while strumming his guitar and singing catchy tunes that stay with audiences long after his shows end.
It’s no wonder, then, that JR was the winner of Stand-up NBC 2016 and named “New Face” at Just for Laughs 2017. More recently, he performed a 15-minute stint on the Netflix special The Comedy Lineup. Elsewhere, his debut album Dual Citizen debuted #1 on iTunes and Billboard, and can be heard on Sirius XM Radio’s Laugh USA.
Closer to home, his upcoming show is brought to Dubai by Live Nation Middle East, responsible for promoting and producing some of the biggest acts in the Middle East: BTS, Imagine Dragons, Maroon 5, Dua Lipa, Robbie Williams, Wiz Khalifa, Calvin Harris, David Guetta, Dave Chapelle and Russell Peters to name but a few. This will be JR’s first performance in the city, marking a significant milestone in his rapidly growing career. Starting at AED 175, tickets are now available at www.livenation.me.
