The rock icons will join Katy Perry and Benson Boone for the Yasalam After-Race Concerts.
The four-piece will perform at Etihad Park on Saturday 6 December, as part of the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix weekend. They’re the third act confirmed for the Yasalam After-Race Concerts, alongside Katy Perry and Benson Boone.
Formed in 1981 by James Hetfield and Lars Ulrich, Metallica are widely regarded as one of the most successful rock bands of all time. Their catalogue includes Master of Puppets, Enter Sandman, Nothing Else Matters and 72 Seasons, released in 2023. They’ve sold over 125 million albums, played to millions across all seven continents, and picked up nine Grammy Awards in the process.
The group also established the All Within My Hands Foundation in 2017, which supports workforce education and disaster relief programmes. To date, the foundation has raised over $20 million.
Metallica will headline on Saturday, with Benson Boone opening the weekend on Thursday and Katy Perry closing the show on Sunday. The Yasalam After-Race Concerts are only open to race ticket holders, with Golden Circle upgrades available from AED 295.
The announcement was made by Ethara on 22 April, with David Powell, chief strategy and business development officer, calling Metallica a “perfect addition” to the line-up. “Saturday will be a day not to miss for F1 and rock fans alike,” he said.
This year marks the 17th edition of the Formula 1 Etihad Airways Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, running from 4 to 7 December. Alongside Formula 1, the weekend will also feature support races including the FIA Formula 2 World Championship and Formula 4 Middle East Championship.
The full Yasalam programme includes the After-Race Concerts, official after-parties, and complimentary access for all ticket holders to cultural and entertainment venues across Yas Island during race week.
