Following SZA’s cancellation, fans can look forward to the rager sensation performing alongside his rap collective, Opium.
Across the globe, fans have been disappointed by the cancellations of her concerts, and those here at home are no exception. The R&B superstar was supposed to headline the second edition of the Wireless Festival Middle East, but is taking a break from touring to “get my life together”. It’s not all bleak, though — Playboi Carti is now confirmed to perform, and he’ll be joined by the rap collective that he founded Opium.
Known for his distinctive sound and cult-like following, Playboi Carti will bring his iconic energy and unique musical vision to the stage, accompanied by Opium artists Ken Carson, Destroy Lonely, and Homixide Gang. Together, they promise to showcase a new wave of dark rap energy inspired by Atlanta’s rage scene and punk’s rebellious aesthetic. For the uninitiated, the Atlanta-born innovator has been instrumental in shaping modern trap music (most notably with his chart-topping albums Die Lit and Whole Lotta Red). His performances are known to be intense, experimental, and visually striking, making him an ideal fit for the Wireless experience.
Fans can anticipate a powerful set filled with Carti’s fan-favourite hits and the Opium collective’s signature sounds, which are built on heavy beats, punk-inspired visuals, and gritty lyricism. Even better: in a worldwide exclusive, each member of the Opium collective will perform individually, a unique arrangement promising to deliver an electrifying 120-minute set that will captivate the audience with its diversity and intensity.
Wireless is renowned as Europe’s biggest celebration of urban music and pop culture, and continues to set the standard for music festivals worldwide, Abu Dhabi included. Known for its high-energy atmosphere and iconic line-ups, the local edition will again take over Etihad Park on 23 November, bringing together the likes of 21 Savage, Yeat, Karan Aujla, Flo Milli, and Afroto.
