Scheduled for a December 2023 launch, TANG, the luxurious Asian restaurant and bar, is poised to make its debut in Dubai. Nestled within the Palace Downtown, TANG Dubai promises an immersive dining experience that draws inspiration from both contemporary Japanese izakayas and the Cantonese eateries of Hong Kong. Its privileged location ensures diners can relish spectacular views of the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountains.
Named after the illustrious Tang dynasty, TANG Dubai pays homage to an era of Chinese history renowned for its cosmopolitan culture, affluence, and timeless allure. Envisioned by the acclaimed interior architect Tristian Du Plessis, TANG Dubai occupies a 10,000 sq. ft. space, seamlessly fusing sleek elegance, opulence, and a minimalist design aesthetic reminiscent of tropical Asia.
Channelling the spirit of authentic Japanese izakayas – relaxed venues where guests can savour a diverse range of plates, flavours, and textures, meant to be shared among friends and family – TANG Dubai embraces and elevates this concept. Its menu of contemporary Asian fare showcases Cantonese-style dishes, a robata grill, captivating sushi creations, and a selection of wok-cooked delicacies.

Crafted under the guidance of the renowned hospitality visionary Nicky van der Walt, TANG Dubai marks the brand’s first restaurant outside of South Africa. TANG currently operates restaurants in Sandton, Johannesburg, and V&A Waterfront in Cape Town.
Nicky van der Walt commented on the opening, “Dubai represents the natural progression and next chapter in our brand narrative. While we received several propositions from different landlords, it was imperative for the flagship of our global expansion to be on par with the iconic locales of our sibling establishments.
We eagerly await introducing our sophisticated, high-energy fine dining experience to the Dubai market. Culinary-wise, this city stands at the epicentre of gastronomy, housing some of the world’s most exceptional operators. We feel deeply honoured and humbled by the opportunity to acquaint a new audience with TANG – and to do so in an awe-inspiring and legendary setting is simply mind-boggling.”
