This marks the third location of Nicky van der Walt’s acclaimed Pan-Asian restaurant.
The bar was set pretty high when restaurateur Nicky van der Walt looked to the prosperous Tang dynasty for culinary inspiration, but with two eponymous outposts – Tang Sandton and Tang V&A Waterfront – thriving in South Africa, he delivered. Now, the F&B concept has expanded to Dubai, bringing with it a luxurious and sensory dining experience inspired by contemporary Japanese izakayas and the classic Cantonese eateries of Hong Kong.

The restaurant has taken up residence at Palace Downtown on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard, translating to contemporary pan-Asian cuisine accented with uninterrupted views of the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Fountain. Spanning 16,000 square feet, the space includes a 395-seat dining area and an expansive outdoor terrace with direct views of these iconic landmarks.

The interior, designed by award-winning architect Tristan du Plessis, features a minimalist yet luxe aesthetic thanks to rich tones, a marble waterfall entrance, and a walk-in wine cellar. And with its menu blending Japanese izakaya-inspired dishes with classic Cantonese flavours, some of the signature items here include Yellowtail Sashimi, Peking Duck, and Robata-grilled Wagyu beef. The Crispy Calamari comes highly recommended, served with jalapeño sauce and hoisin. Alongside, the Tuna Tataki is a Japanese dish that’s packed with flavour, served with onion ponzu and citrus soya.

“Dubai is the perfect home for Tang’s next chapter,” says Van der Walt. “Its vibrant cosmopolitan energy aligns seamlessly with our vision of redefining luxury dining in the most iconic destinations worldwide.” As the third addition to the Tang family, the new venue is expected to build on a legacy of global recognition — Tang Sandton ranked among the Top 100 Restaurants of the World at the 2023 Luxury Lifestyle Awards, while TANG V&A Waterfront won the award for Best Restaurant in Cape Town in the South African Restaurant Awards in 2024.
