Lando Norris reclaimed the Formula 1 championship lead with a commanding win at the Mexico City Grand Prix, while teammate Oscar Piastri faced a tougher afternoon.
The Formula 1 grid lined up at the Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez for the Mexico City Grand Prix, where Lando Norris put in a faultless performance from pole position to take his sixth win of the season. The McLaren driver now sits just ahead of teammate Oscar Piastri in the standings, with four races remaining.
Charles Leclerc secured second place for Ferrari, finishing more than 30 seconds behind the race winner. Red Bull’s Max Verstappen completed the podium in third, narrowly missing out on second after a tight final stint.
Piastri, who started seventh and entered the race with a points advantage over Norris, crossed the line in fifth. A virtual safety car in the closing laps limited his chances to move up, despite a strong recovery drive that included several clean overtakes.
Rookie Oliver Bearman delivered a standout performance for Haas, finishing fourth and securing the team’s best result of the season. Kimi Antonelli took sixth for Mercedes, while George Russell and Lewis Hamilton followed in seventh and eighth respectively. Hamilton, now racing for Ferrari, dropped from third after a 10-second time penalty for leaving the track and gaining an advantage.
Haas scored double points with Esteban Ocon finishing ninth, and Gabriel Bortoleto collected the final point for Sauber in tenth.
All three front-runners completed the race on a one-stop strategy, while others, including both McLarens and the Mercedes pair, opted for two stops.
Ferrari edged back into second in the constructors’ championship, now one point ahead of Mercedes. McLaren remains well clear in first.
The race had its share of incidents, including early contact between Verstappen and Hamilton, a near miss for marshals in the pit lane, and a smoky retirement for Carlos Sainz on the penultimate lap.
With the championship lead changing hands once again, all eyes are now on the final few rounds – and what may come down to a season-deciding finale in Abu Dhabi.
