Chef Akmal Anuar is at the helm of the NYC-inspired Pizzeria Funkcoolio.
It’s no surprise that Osteria Funkcoolio launched with fanfare at Port De La Mer last year, and chef Akmal Anuar’s latest venture is set to follow suit — meet Pizzeria Funkcoolio, a new spot that fuses Italian cuisine with the precision of Japanese ingredient in a laidback yet edgy setting. Opening its doors at Neighbourhood Food Hall in Dubai Motor City, the itameshi concept brings a slice of NYC’s pizza scene to the neighbourhood and, true to the chef’s signature style, is rooted in the highest quality ingredients and chef-driven creativity.

Here, the spotlight is on authentic, no-fuss Italian flavours with a twist, translating to a menu featuring handcrafted pizzas available in three sizes: a 20-inch pizza for dine-in (served whole or by the slice), along with 10-inch and 15-inch options for delivery. Guests can indulge in classics like Margherita and Pepperoni, or try more inventive creations such as Spicy Duck, Chicken Ragu, Shakshuka, and Shrimp Aji Amarillo. Elevating the experience further, diners can customise their pizzas with signature toppings including honey chili, truffle oil, spicy mayo, and chili oil.
Beyond pizza, Pizzeria Funkcoolio also offers a build-your-own pasta experience, allowing guests to select their choice of spaghetti, linguine, penne or fettuccine paired with rich sauces such as porcini, aglio e olio, pomodoro, and veal ragù. Rounding off the menu is Pizzeria Funkcoolio’s homemade tiramisu, alongside a selection of beverages to complete the meal.

“We wanted to create a space that feels casual, cool, and packed with flavour — where people can come together over great pizza and pasta, just like the family-run joints in New York,” says Chef Akmal Anuar. “Motor City is the perfect spot to bring this energy, and we’re excited to be part of this vibrant neighbourhood.”
