Sufret Maryam has made its Dubai debut

Sufret Maryam

Located at Wasl 51, the new Levantine restaurant was created by chef Salam Daqqaq, of Bait Maryam fame.

If you’ve ever tucked into a Levantine feast at the cosy and charming Bait Maryam, then the launch of Sufret Maryam belongs on your radar. Opening its doors at Wasl 51 tomorrow, the new culinary concept will bring all the authenticity that has made acclaimed chef Salam Daqqaq a household name, but with an elevated twist. And like its more casual predecessor in JLT, Sufret Maryam will pay homage to the vibrant culinary heritage of the Levant, crafting dishes with the finest ingredients and a touch of home-style warmth.

Sufret Maryam

Daqqaq, for the uninitiated, established Bait Maryam back in 2017 to fulfil her dream of becoming a chef, having taught cooking classes in Saudi Arabia. And while everything from the rustic décor accents to hearty food is a nod to her mother Maryam, its menu also features dishes that are staples in homes across Palestine, Lebanon, Syria and Jordan. The signature Maryam Fukhara, meanwhile, personifies Daqqaq’s prowess for adding a contemporary spin to something traditional — regulars rave about the pairing of fried kibbe and pomegranate molasses sauce. Not only does Bait Maryam boast a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand rating for offering high quality and value for money, but the chef-owner was also named the Middle East & North Africa’s Best Female Chef 2023 by 50 Best.

As for what diners can expect at Sufret Maryam? While menu details are under wraps, we expect plenty of fine-dining dishes with an ancestral origin story — Daqqaq was born in Palestine and raised in Jordan. And if the level of service and conviviality at Bait Maryam is any indication, the new restaurant at Wasl 51 is sure to be an emblem of Arab hospitality. Also worth a visit in this vicinity is Yava, where founder Basil Yassin also draws from his Palestinian roots, designing a menu that celebrates the shared history of 21 countries nestled by the Mediterranean Sea.
