There’s just something about taking in smooth jazz surrounded by creative cocktails and sky-high views — what better way to while away the carefree hours of a weekend? Enter Charged Particles, a talented jazz trio set to host a musical extravaganza at Ray’s Bar, the highest bar in the capital, in Conrad Abu Dhabi Etihad Towers. Taking place from 21 to 23 March, the event promises the trifecta of indulgent dining, striking city views, and live jazz performances.
For context, Charged Particles is a firm favourite when it comes to funky Latin jazz in the San Francisco Bay Area, pushing the boundaries of the genre by blending various musical traditions to create captivating new sounds. Their repertoire seamlessly combines elements of jazz, Latin music, funk, classical melodies, and more. And within their compositions, guests at Ray’s Bar can expect arrangements and spontaneous solos that showcase their improvisational skills. Despite their ability to play both acoustic instruments, Charged Particles maintains an acoustic sensibility that adds an enchanting touch to their improvisations.

Originating from Detroit but now based in California, Charged Particles first garnered attention through a performance on National Public Radio. The trio’s recent album Live at the Baked Potato has received acclaim for capturing the essence of jazz composer Michael Brecker’s music. They have also graced venues such as Ronnie Scott’s Birdland and Blues Alley with their musical interplay and individual virtuosity. And with performances around the globe under their belt, Charged Particles never fails to captivate audiences with its invigorating approach to contemporary jazz.
At Ray’s Bar, diners can look forward to funky Latin jazz on 21 March, followed by traditional acoustic jazz on 22 March and an acoustic set of jazz of Michael Brecker’s compositions on 23 March. A sharing menu of delectable bar bites and free-flowing beverages will be served from 8:30pm to 10:30pm, with packages starting at AED 220 per person (inclusive of soft beverages). The house beverages package, meanwhile, is priced AED 300 per person.

And if you’re craving an extra dose of jazz, you can head to poolside restaurant Nahaam’s Saturday Brunch on 23 March. This exclusive event will feature not only a live performance by Charged Particles, but also a culinary feast fit for the weekend.
