Experience “All That Jazz” at the Etihad Arena this September.
Curtain up, Abu Dhabi! The iconic Broadway sensation, Chicago The Musical, is set to sashay its way to the Etihad Arena stage from 12 to 22 September 2024.
Renowned for its timeless tale of fame, fortune, and all that jazz, this Broadway classic promises an unforgettable experience for theatre enthusiasts and newcomers alike. Set against the backdrop of the roaring twenties, this musical transports audiences into the heart of prohibition-era Chicago, where corruption and glamour intertwine in a seductive dance. The story follows Roxie Hart, a vaudevillian chorus girl with dreams of stardom, who finds herself embroiled in a scandalous murder trial. Alongside fellow inmate Velma Kelly, Roxie navigates the treacherous waters of the criminal justice system, using charm, manipulation, and a killer set of pipes to vie for the spotlight and secure her freedom.
The allure of “Chicago” lies in its electrifying musical numbers and dynamic choreography. From the sultry allure of “All That Jazz” to the sizzling intensity of “Cell Block Tango” and “Mister Cellophane,” the production transports audiences to a bygone era of glamour and excess.
The original 1975 Broadway production was a smash hit, running for two years before captivating audiences in London’s West End. With its iconic score by John Kander and Fred Ebb and slick, Fosse-inspired choreography, “Chicago” has captivated audiences around the world for decades. Chicago’s enduring legacy extends beyond the stage. The 2002 film adaptation, starring Renée Zellweger, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Richard Gere, became a cultural phenomenon, sweeping the Academy Awards with six wins, including Best Picture.
With its state-of-the-art facilities and expansive seating capacity, Etihad Arena on Yas Island provides the perfect platform to showcase the grandeur and spectacle of “Chicago” to audiences from across the region.
Chicago isn’t the only theatre production coming to the capital this year. Matilda the Musical will run from 20 to 23 June, followed by Life of Pi from 15 to 17 November.
