Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris took third and fourth in Singapore, but their close first-lap clash raised eyebrows as McLaren continue to walk a tightrope in the title fight.
With anticipation already building for what could be a championship-deciding finale at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, all eyes turned to Singapore – where the tension between McLaren’s title contenders came into focus.
The Singapore Grand Prix added another twist in the Formula 1 title race, with teammates Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris finishing third and fourth. But it was a first-lap incident between the pair that sparked plenty of paddock chatter.
Norris lunged up the inside at turn one, clipping Max Verstappen’s Red Bull and forcing Piastri wide, just inches from the wall. Despite the contact, both drivers continued without damage, but it marked the second time this season that the pair have made contact on track.
Norris went on to secure third, just ahead of Piastri, closing the gap in the standings to 22 points with six rounds remaining. McLaren have already sealed the constructors’ title, but the internal battle for the drivers’ crown is heating up.
Elsewhere, Max Verstappen finished fifth for Red Bull in a race defined by strategy and limited overtaking opportunities. The Marina Bay circuit once again proved to be a stern test of tyre management and driver patience, with Ferrari and Mercedes unable to break into the top three.
While the championship remains far from decided, Singapore was a clear reminder of how finely balanced things are at the top and how quickly teamwork can turn into rivalry when silverware is on the line.
With six races to go, including a much-anticipated finale in Abu Dhabi, the title race is as close as ever.
