Japanese restaurant, Otoro, launches at Al Qana.
For foodies across the UAE, the name Akmal Anuar needs no introduction. For others, here’s a brief one: not only is the Singaporean chef the brainchild behind the likes of 3 Fils, Goldfish, 11 Woodfire and Sharjah-based Chie, but he’s also the founder of F&B consultancy firm White Rice. Now, Anuar has opened an exciting new concept, Otoro.
Situated a stone’s throw from The National Aquarium in the Al Qana district, Otoro is the latest addition to the White Rice portfolio. The philosophy of this contemporary Japanese-inspired restaurant is simple, exquisite food made with fresh produce. Expect ingredients sourced from the various prefectures of Japan, such as Wagyu from Kagoshima, Otoro from Tokyo and Uni from Hokkaido.
With waterfront views of the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Otoro’s modern architecture perfectly match the contemporary yet cosy interiors. Staying true to the earthiness and neutrality of contemporary Japanese design, the restaurant boasts a welcoming ambience, subtle decorative elements and an open kitchen. Otoro can comfortably seat 60 people indoors, with space for an additional 40 guests on the alfresco terrace.
Otoro’s menu incorporates premium produce and original flavours to ensure authenticity to the dishes. Highlights from the menu include Yellow Tail Carpaccio, Wagyu Tempura, Shabu Shabu Burger and Seabass Miso Yaki. Elsewhere, those with a sweet tooth will appreciate the Green Tea Tiramisu and Dark Chocolate tart for dessert.
“Otoro is the first White Rice concept in Abu Dhabi and we couldn’t be prouder to share the season’s freshest produce in the way we know best with the community here at Al Qana,” said Chef Akmal on the opening.
As a part of their second phase Otoro aims to add an Omakase experience at the sushi bar.
