The EDOMAE masterclass will be a culinary experience unlike any other in the city.
Celebrated annually on 18 June, International Sushi Day ordinarily makes for the perfect excuse to indulge in the finest of this Japanese specialty – but because nothing about SUSHISAMBA is ordinary, the restaurant is marking the occasion with EDOMAE instead. Launching on 26 June, the interactive new masterclass is designed to immerse guests into the ancient art of sushi-making and will be led by none other than Chef Kyung Soo Moon, Culinary Director of SUSHISAMBA.
EDOMAE promises to be a one-of-a-kind culinary experience, taking guests behind the scenes as they learn about the history and finesse required to create one of the world’s most sought-after dishes. As for its setting? SUSHISAMBA’s intimate private dining room, which happens to overlook the Arabian Gulf, Palm Jumeirah and Ain Dubai. Referencing Tokyo’s old name, ‘Edo’, EDOMAE pays homage to Japan’s rich culinary history. Incidentally, it’s named after traditional Edomae cuisine from Japan’s Edo period, which lasted from 1603 to 1868 and is renowned for its delicate dishes made from local fish caught freshly from Edo Bay.
Under the expert guidance of Chef Kyung Soo Moon, guests can gear up for an intimate experience of learning about the many different kinds of sushi and how it has become one of the most popular dishes in the modern world. With access to premium sushi-making equipment and freshly prepared ingredients, guests will have the chance to hone their culinary skills as they try their hands at preparing a classic sushi roll as well as two signature SUSHISAMBA rolls. Following the session, guests will be invited to indulge in a sharing-style lunch spanning three courses, with sake and grape pairing options for an additional charge.
To commemorate their sushi-making experience, each guest will receive a limited-edition SUSHISAMBA apron that has been specially designed for the occasion. With a maximum capacity of ten students per class, the monthly EDOMAE masterclass makes for the perfect setting to meet like-minded people and understand sushi’s rich history. And owing to its engaging nature, it can also be booked for intimate group events and team-building activities upon request. Priced at AED 689 per person, the first class will take place from 1pm to 3:30pm on Sunday 26 June, offering the perfect respite from the sweltering summer heat.
