A big night of Afrohouse beats and the mystical traditions of Mexico’s most famous festival is in the works.
Long gone are the days when Día de Muertos (or Day of the Dead) celebrations – parades, processions, music, drinking, and dancing – were limited to the streets of Mexico. Today, those who have departed are honored everywhere from the museums of Los Angeles to the fine-dining restaurants of Bangkok. And closer to home, things will be just as festive as venues across town host the Mexican tradition, starting with Ginger Moon.
The poolside hotspot at W Dubai – Mina Seyahi will host a spectacular fusion of Afrohouse beats and its colorful, mystical traditions, courtesy of record label Afrodise, which will return on Saturday, 2 November for a night like no other. For the uninitiated, the annual event is rooted in celebrating the dead while their souls return to Earth to share with the living. We’re told that guests will be transported to a world as magical and powerful as the idea itself — think: glowing altars and intricate skulls designed to immerse you in the mystery of this ancient tradition.
Overlooking the Arabian Gulf, the buzzy venue will be transformed into a breathtaking tribute as the vibrant decorations will elevate the senses of partygoers and provide the perfect backdrop for the evening. You can also expect a multisensory journey as fire catrina dancers mesmerize with their fiery performances. Elsewhere, professional catrina makeup artists will be available to complete the theme for guests wishing to embody the spirit of Día de Muertos further. The night will kick off with a warm-up set by Cilia (6 pm) followed by Funky Tales and resident DJ Armando Hinojosa from 7 pm, ensuring the bash starts on a high note. Headlining the night will be top Afrohouse talents: Aaron Sevilla, Joeski, and Peppe Citarella.
Ginger Moon’s New Californian menu of small bites will be available to purchase on the night accompanied by a beverage menu that includes the new Moth Bar mezcal offering, created by master mixer Laurent Frangie. Following on from the main event is the secret corridor afterparty on the 30th floor, leading into the exclusive E-WOW Suite that boasts panoramic views of the city. Featuring both Citarella and Sevilla, the afterparty will keep the beats going until the early hours of the morning, making this one of the new season’s most unforgettable nights.
