1 June: Tell a Story
Kick things off with the Storytelling in Motion workshop at Kave in Alserkal Avenue, learning some of the basic techniques for telling stories through movement. You don’t have to be a performer, either; anyone interested in accessing a new form of expression will walk away with practical tools to both create and understand movement that communicates concepts and emotions. Russell Kane is set to return to the QE2, bringing his HyperActive World Tour to Theatre by QE2 for an exclusive comedy show. And knowing the British stand-up comedian and TV star, another high-octane performance that features gags, anecdotes, quick wit, and plenty of comedic observations about Brits abroad is on the cards. 7 June: Get Wet
History will be made as the Waterbomb Festival makes its regional debut in Dubai, taking over Dubai Festival City for two whole days and bringing with it the likes of water guns, water cannons, and water fights aplenty. The epic summer party has already confirmed a number of big names set to perform: K-pop singer-songwriter Jessi, hip-hop artist Simon Dominic, EDM pop group 82MAJOR, and more. Learn more here.
8 June: Master the Basics
Break free of your camera’s Auto mode thanks to the Photography Level 1 workshop hosted by Gulf Photo Plus. Not only will you gain a solid understanding of the essential elements in achieving perfect exposure – ISO, shutter speed, aperture – but you’ll also explore the creative side of photography with a focus on the traditional rules of composition, as well as how to break them. 15 June: Support the Arts
Culture junkies are in for a treat as the National Theatre screening of Nye arrives at Courtyard Playhouse for one night only. Directed by Rufus Norris, this new play by Tim Price sees Michael Sheen shine as he depicts politician Aneurin “Nye” Bevan in a surreal and spectacular journey through the life and legacy of the man who transformed Britain’s welfare state. 21 June: Make a Decision
Listen in as a jury of 12 matrons come together to decide the fate of Sally Poppy, who claims to be pregnant and is sentenced to hang for a heinous murder, as The Welkin comes to The Junction in Alserkal Avenue. Set in rural Suffolk in 1759, this theatre adaptation of this courtroom drama by Lucy Kirkwood will run for three days in a row. Learn more here.
22 June: Listen Up
Also returning to Dubai is French Montana, who will bring his infectious flow and signature hits like “Unforgettable” and “No Shopping” to Coca-Cola Arena for one night only. The Moroccan-American rapper’s upcoming concert is part of EarthSoul, a festival that aims to unite artists and audiences in a shared mission of environmental awareness. Learn more here.
23 June: Take a Nap
Explore your subconscious at the UAE’s first Sleep Concert: Harp Edition, taking place at the Theatre of Digital Art in Souk Madinat.
